There are so many precipice advocates supporting abortion stating that a mother should have the right to terminate her fetus if she feels Incapable of becoming a mother. But I say that Is unjust, because If that woman chose to be unprotected and not use contraceptives then she should be held accountable to give that fetus life. So many women do not want to be held accountable for being Irresponsible. I know It sounds harsh to say that a woman should give birth to the child if she chose to be unprotected and you all question what if its unsafe, Statically speaking “One out of ,475 women dies from pregnancy complications” (Glibber).
So how does that Justify abortion? Then you question what if the woman was raped? Less than 1% of abortions are rape cases so that is unjustifiable for the millions of deaths. “The Elliot Institute surveyed 192 women who conceived during a rape or incest (164 women were raped and 28 were victims of incest). Of those victims, 69 percent carried the baby to term and either raised the child or made an adoption plan, 29 percent had an abortion, and 1. 5 percent had a miscarriage.
They found that nearly 80 percent of he women who aborted said that abortion was the wrong solution; 43 percent of these women said they felt pressure to abort from family members or health workers” (Crosses). You see most women are pressured. Not just by the people In their lives but by someone In the medical profession, someone who promotes saving lives, yet would agree with abortion a notion to take life. Why? Is it because the fetus seems not to be human to you. Yet at conception the fetus is completely human, and therefore has rights.
So many women can never think for themselves because they re pressured into abortion and pressured into thinking the fetus is not human, but indeed it is. On the contrary, those who are precipice, would disagree with the statement that the fetus is technically a human, and thus could be aborted. They also say that whatever the reason may be as to why the woman does not want to birth the child, which Is her choice and should be granted that choice. Therefore they are more concerned with the rights of the woman. The pro-choice movement and abortion providers are In the business of protecting and respecting women’s human rights, heir moral autonomy, and their choices. ” (Arthur) Thus determining that it is all about doing what is right for the woman. Precipice advocates feel that women should be eligible for this right of abortion without disputes from religious authority, or the government. They also feel that giving women this right puts them in control of their own lives and their own futures. Therefore without it these women would be forced to take on task they did not plan for. An article on Procom. Mom states “The choice over when and whether to have children is central to a woman’s independence and ability to determine her future”. In regards to a woman having the rights over her future and rights to when she wants a baby, using abortion is an excuse to not taking responsibilities for your actions. If you want to control your future and when you give birth, that Is what protection and contraceptives are for. You cannot keep using women’s rights as an excuse for abortion. Not only that, precipice advocates say that having an unwanted ones that are more likely to be scarred mentally, emotionally, and sometimes physically.
Women who have had abortions suffer an increased risk of anxiety, depression, and suicide. A study published in a recent edition of the Journal of Anxiety Disorders found that women who aborted their unintended pregnancies were 30 percent more likely to subsequently report all the symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder than those women who had carried their unintended pregnancies to term” (Biochip). Therefore as women are going in for abortions to control their future, they are unconsciously ignoring the greater risk factors after the abortion that loud possibly harm their future.
Conclusion: In conclusion, when speaking on abortion the rights of women are always the top priority. But with rights comes responsibility, and most women who choose abortion are avoiding their responsibility as a mother. Also I want you to consider the possibility of you being that unwanted child and your rights being taken away. The possibility that you may have never been able to be something great, think of all the possibilities and opportunities taken before they were even granted to you.
