Abortion should be Illegal because scientific studies show how early baby becomes conscious In the womb, It causes many problems for the mothers, and It Is very dangerous. For those pro abortionists who do not believe that a child Is a person until he or she Is several months old, what about the premature babies? Anyone who has held a little baby that weighs less than 2 pounds knows that the child Is Indeed a little person: one who is struggling to live. The heartbeat of the unborn child begins 21 days after conception and a child born as early as 20 weeks after conception has a good chance of survival (Nilsson).
My sister is a mother of two children, and as I tended every doctor’s appointment with her, I experienced the stages of growth in the womb. At five weeks, we could see and hear the baby’s heartbeat on the ultrasound. At only eight weeks, the baby may only be the size of a bean, but it is constantly moving, and its fingers are beginning to form and it can properly move all of the joints in the arms and legs. The unborn baby’s heart starts beating at 20 days and the brain gives off brainwaves at 40 days. If these factors are used by the law to determine death, why can’t they be used to determine life?
There are physical and psychological problems that can afflict women who have had abortions. Some of the more important physical problems associated with the procedure are bleeding, infections, constant pain, a difficult and painful menstrual cycle, a tearing of the uterus which could result in hemorrhage, octopi pregnancies; this is where the pregnancy occurs outside of the uterus and can be life-threatening to the mother. Other problems associated with abortion are miscarriages, and becoming sterile. After completing the procedure, many women have thoughts of suicide due to regret f “killing” their child.
They have thoughts of “what If”, as in what If I did the wrong thing, or what if I would’ve been a great mother, would It have been a boy or girl; and as a result of this many psychological problems occur. Some of the more Important psychological problems that can be a result of the procedure are guilt, mourning, regret, sense of loss, suicide, anger, self-destructive behavior, the Inability to forgive self, nightmares. Psychological disorders that may result Include eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and obsessive compulsive disorder (mm. Knowledgeableness. Mom). Abortion Is very dangerous and many mothers don’t research the complications before getting the procedure. According to the CDC, the leading causes of abortion related deaths are hemorrhage, infection, embolism, anesthesia, and undiagnosed octopi pregnancies. Legal abortion is reported as the fifth leading cause of maternal death in the united States. For women aborting a first and is multiplied with two or more abortions (Department of Health and Hospitals). In 2008, 12 women died as a result of complications from known legal induced abortion.
The number of deaths attributable to legal induced abortion was highest before the sass. In 1972 (the year before abortion was federally legalized), a total of 24 women died from causes known to be associated with legal abortions, and 39 died as a result of known illegal abortions (Centers for Disease Control). Each person must choose his fundamental position regarding life: will they live it as a gift of infinite value, or as something to be manipulated? To treat abortion as morally acceptable betrays a tragic loss of the sense of this gift and its Giver, and of morality itself.
Having a baby s a low-risk undertaking, but suppose the risk were much higher. When an innocent life is at stake, isn’t there a moral obligation to take risk? Childbirth is much safer than trying to rescue a drowning child in the ocean or trying to rescue a woman who is being beaten or raped. An adult swimming to shore from a capsized boat has a much greater chance of survival if he doesn’t try to save a child. But does that mean he shouldn’t? In conclusion, abortion should be illegal because scientific studies show how early a baby becomes conscious in the womb, it causes many problems for the mothers, and it is very dangerous.
