The other day, I was talking to a Christian fellow at Starbucks. He’d been online and somehow the gay marriage issue came up(Abortion). When he stated that he didn’t care if someone was gay or wanted to life with their significant other, he didn’t like the idea of that lifestyle and living arrangement being called; marriage. He was perfectly okay, if it was just called something else, anything else. Okay so, let’s talk.

It turns out that he was shouted down by a barrage of folks from the GLBT Community, who were “highly offended” by his comments. He answered back, and others started chiming in on the Christian political side of the fence and claiming that the “gay agenda” was too much. What did they mean by “gay agenda” the GLBT crowd wondered? Well, it turns out they were bothered by GLBT clubs on High School campuses where they kids went to school for one.

Also the spoke of Hollywood, where Hollywood writers seemed to put a gay person on every single sit-com and at least one scene or character in every single movie – stating that wasn’t right because there just are not that many gay citizens in our country by percentage. Then they spoke of the “gay agenda” in our politics in Washington DC, in our entertainment industry, at our college campuses, and claiming that the GLBT crowd was preying on adolescents who are going through their own hormonal awakenings, thus, in a way brainwashing them as they are confused about the changes in their own bodies.

After listening to all this, I realized that there is a push from both sides, and that it really is not in the best interest of our nation to display all this animosity and anger over this issue in our national politics. It seems to be ripping apart our national dialogue and decaying the online conversation as well. Now then, those are the realities that I see right now, and I have traveled to every city in the United States of America by motorhome over a 7-year period, so I am well aware of the challenges that the clash of these lifestyles have on society.

My acquaintance also noted that he believed that density and population do play a part in less-than-typically-normal behavior with regards to homo. Okay so, whether or not that additional comments is the case or not, I think it does need to stay out of politics, as we have important things to worry about; our foreign policy, balanced trade, jobs, economics, government budgets, energy strategies, and education just to name a few.

I wish people could all get along, and let me leave you with one last thought to ponder; we did promise ourselves and our country that freedom and liberty would prevail. So, they have their beliefs, others have theirs, and we are supposed to be a nation of one with freedom and liberty for all. Let’s focus on that and ditch this animosity and political divide. Deal?
